Floods have damaged a diversion constructed at Bhalukhola in Shivasatakshi Municipality under the East-West Highway (Asian Highway).
The District Traffic Police Office, Jhapa, has stated that the highway is currently operating in one direction at that location. A diversion has been made for a new bridge in Bhalukhola under the under-construction Asian Highway. The highway has been repeatedly blocked here due to flooding in the river after continuous rains.
Although the highway is not blocked at present, the diversion has been damaged and the highway has been made one-way, said District Traffic Police Chief Santosh Rai. It has been raining continuously in the eastern region including Jhapa since Thursday night, and the flow of water in the rivers is increasing.
