Due to continuous rain and snowfall in the high Himalayan regions, the District Administration Office, Sankhuwasabha, has urged people not to trek in the Himalayan regions above 4,000 meters.

In a notice issued by Chief District Officer Sirjana Thapaliya on Thursday, it has been mentioned that trekking towards the northern Himalayan region, including Makalu Base Camp, should not be done due to excessive snowfall and increased cold. She said that there may be a shortage of food and other essential supplies in the northern region due to snowfall.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the administration has instructed to take special precautions keeping in mind the possible risks as rain and snowfall are likely to continue till Saturday.

Meanwhile, police officers at Makalu Police Post Seduwa have been alerting foreign and domestic tourists by providing them with weather information. DSP Kumar Prasad Mainali of the District Police Office said that tourists are also being continuously informed about roads, hotels and security arrangements.

According to him, there are currently about 70 foreign tourists and 60 Nepali tourists in the Makalu base camp area. 'The police are conducting a weather awareness campaign at Tumlingtar Airport, Num and Seduwa,' DSP Mainali said, 'We have been providing direct information to tourists about the weather, roads and risks.'

According to the District Administration Office, the risk of landslides, road blockages and public life being affected due to continuous rain has increased. Therefore, all citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel except for essential work.

The administration has urged local residents in areas at risk of landslides to be especially vigilant and to move to safer places if necessary.

The Sankhuwasabha administration has urged citizens to listen to weather information regularly, and to take special precautions on roads near river banks, landslide-prone areas and mountainous areas.
