The Rajduwali section of the Mechi Highway, which was damaged by a landslide, has been operational since Saturday evening. This road has come into operation after the continuous efforts of the Road Division Ilam. A team including a geologist Madhusudan Acharya and technicians of the Road Division had been continuously working to open the road.
The road was blocked after continuous rains since October 18. Despite the use of human resources and machinery to open the road, it could not be successful due to the problem of water flowing from the ground, cracks in the ground and subsidence.
Despite technical problems, the road was brought back into operation on the fourteenth day after the obstruction after continuous efforts, informed Pawan Bhattarai, Chief of Road Division Ilam.
The road has been opened to traffic since 8:30 pm on Saturday night. He said that the work to permanently resolve the Rajduwali obstruction will be done simultaneously. With the completion of the road repair work, the movement of vehicles and transport vehicles left for Taplejung-Panchthar and Ilam via Jhapa and from Jhapa to Ilam-Panchthar-Taplejung has begun.
When this road did not open, the Simalgo-Tilkeni road was brought into operation as an alternative a few days ago. However, the road was narrow and unpaved, making it difficult for vehicles carrying food and fuel to operate.
