An alternative road has been put into operation when the Rajduwali section under the Ilam section of the Mechi highway is becoming more difficult to operate.
On the 11th day after the highway was blocked, the 12-kilometer road was brought into operation with the diversion at Jogmai River.
The road division, Elam, has opened the road by turning from Simal Golai to Tilkeni instead of Rajduwali.
An alternative road has been opened by cutting water from 14 Hrium pipes and some canal pieces in Jogmai River. To open the road, the road division took the Hrium pipe from Panchthar. Stakeholders worked overnight together with the road division office to open this road. With the completion of the diversion work of Jogmai River, the vehicles which are coming down towards Jhapa from Taplejung, Panchthar and Ilam and while going from Jhapa to Taplejung through Ilam Panchthar, are heading towards their respective destinations.
It is said that small vehicles can pass easily on this route. It has not been disclosed whether heavy and cargo vehicles can/cannot be driven on the alternative road.
