Birendra Hall, which was destroyed by vandalism and arson during the Gen-G movement on August 23 and the 24th demonstration, has been deemed suitable as a temporary building for the Koshi State Assembly meeting and secretariat operations.
Due to vandalism, arson and looting, the meeting and work of the assembly has come to a standstill after the meeting place of the provincial assembly has been completely destroyed. The meeting of the Provincial Assembly Secretariat Management and Operations Committee presided over by Speaker Ambar Bahadur Bista on Monday decided that the 'Birendra Hall' owned by the Biratnagar metropolis is suitable for the Provincial Assembly meeting and the operation of the secretariat. A delegation visited the agricultural center and Virendra Hall in Kathari Rural Municipality recently. The
committee has also decided to arrange the necessary budget to rent the said building. In addition, Niroj Dhakal, information officer of the Secretariat, informed that preparations are also being made to adopt the JTUG process with the Biratnagar metropolis for the use of the building.
The meeting has also decided to request the government to rebuild the destroyed state assembly building and secretariat at the current location or select a suitable new location.
The seventh session of the Koshi State Assembly ended on October 10th. The secretariat has informed that preparations have started to conduct the eighth session at Birendra Hall.
Koshi government cut 25 percent from the budget
The Koshi state government has decided to cut the budget by 25 percent for the current financial year. The provincial cabinet meeting on Monday made the decision.
According to Revathiraman Bhandari, Minister of Internal Affairs and Law of the state government, it has been decided to stop 25 percent of the budget without implementing it. He said, 'The budget has been cut for the reconstruction of offices damaged by vandalism and arson on August 23 and 24 during the Gen-G movement and for the reconstruction of the damage caused by the recent floods and landslides.'
According to Minister Bhandari, the provincial government is preparing to spend the cut amount on reconstruction.
Similarly, the cabinet meeting has also decided to appoint Milan Acharya as the secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Indra Sapkota as the secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Forest and Environment. The
meeting has also decided to allow the withholding amount to be transferred to be spent only on post-disaster reconstruction.
