The data has been released that 919 houses were damaged in 6 local levels of Ilam district due to the landslides that occurred on October 18th with incessant rain. Similarly, four hundred physical structures have been damaged.
According to the statistics released by the District Administration Office, Ilam, Suryodaya, Ilam, Mai and Deumai Municipalities along with Phakphokthum Rural Municipality have suffered so much damage. Data collection is ongoing for Sandakpur, Mangsevung, Rong and Chulachuli Rural Municipality of the district.
Most of the roads leading to the damaged areas have collapsed and due to the difficult terrain, the collection work has only started late, according to the municipal authorities, there is a delay in releasing the data together. 243 houses were completely destroyed and buried due to landslides in 6 local levels of
office. Similarly, 673 were partially damaged. Chief District Officer Sunita Nepal informed that 718 citizens were affected due to floods and landslides.
According to him, 11 of the affected people have been placed in a community building. Similarly, 389 people are living in the houses of their relatives and neighbors, while the rest are staying in their own land and partially damaged houses by pitching tents.
Due to the landslide, the most damage has been done in Ilam municipality. 263 houses were damaged here. Similarly, 76 houses were damaged in Mai Municipality, 111 in Deumai, 194 in Suryodaya and 20 in Phakphokthum.
39 people lost their lives in Ilam due to the landslide, 1 person is missing and 13 people are injured. Out of the 39 who lost their lives, the number of men is 18 and the number of women is 21. There are 8 each in Mai Jogmai Rural Municipality and Deumai Municipality of Pahero Purda District, 7 each in Ilam Municipality and Sandakpur Rural Municipality, 1 in Phokthum Rural Municipality, 3 in Mangsewung and 5 in Suryodaya Municipality.
More than three dozen rural roads, including the Rajduwali section of the Mechi highway, which were damaged after the landslide, have not been put into operation.
