Another road has been opened as an alternative when repeated attempts to remove the obstruction in the Rajduwali area have failed.
Since the Rajduwali section of Awarudwa Mechi highway has not been operational since October 18, traffic has been started through an alternative route since Sunday.
Another road has been opened as an alternative when repeated attempts to remove the obstruction in the Rajduwali area have failed.
The Assistant Chief District Officer of Ilam, Bholanath Guragai informed that small and light vehicles have started to travel from the alternative road since Sunday evening. He said that this road will be closed from 10 pm to 6 am to reduce the risk of accidents.
With the operation of the alternative road, it has become somewhat easier to descend from Ilam to Jhapa and to ascend to Ilam from Jhapa.
Similarly, this road has also given relief to the travelers traveling from Taplejung and Panchthar to Terai.
An alternative road connects Tilkeni Golai near Ilam Bazar via Bajradevi-Namshaling-Nayabazar to Fikkal. As the alternative route is rough, uphill and downhill, there is a high risk of accidents when operating large vehicles. The Mechi highway has been blocked since October 18 due to the landslide in Rajduwali area.
Due to the non-opening of the highway, there have been problems in the transportation of daily necessities, medicines and fuel, while long-distance transport services have been completely stopped.
According to Road Division Ilam, there is little possibility of opening the road immediately due to a large landslide on the Mechi highway, the road has washed away and many places have been swept away by the landslide.
