Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality of Sunsari has asked the banks and financial institutions to increase the loan installment and interest payment period of the farmers saying that the local farmers have suffered huge financial losses due to the floods caused by the incessant rains.
Due to heavy rains and floods that occurred on October 18th and 19th, the rice, vegetable and fruit crops of the farmers have been greatly damaged. Mentioning that farmers are in serious financial crisis in such a situation, the Municipality has requested the related banks and financial institutions to re-determine the time limit for payment of October installments and interest and provide relief.
Rural Municipality Chairman Ajmal Akhtar Azad has sent a letter to banks and financial institutions asking them to reconsider as they are not in a position to pay loans to the flood-affected farmers, traders and workers immediately. President Azad has mentioned in the letter, 'Floods have destroyed the capital of the farmers. In such a situation, it will be unfair to force them to pay bank installments and interest.'
The rural municipality has requested the banks and financial institutions to adopt a flexible policy after local farmers and laborers requested the municipality. President Azad informed that a letter has been sent to the banks and financial institutions of Inaruwa Municipality, Koshi Rural Municipality, Hari Nagar Rural Municipality and other areas. Due to flood and inundation, the farmers of Sunsari had to bear the loss of crores. Krishi Gyan Kendra Sunsari said that the details of the damage are being collected.
