The East-West Highway (Asian Highway) has been fully operational since Monday evening.
The East-West Highway (Asian Highway), which was blocked when the Kalikhola diversion near the eastern border town of Kakdvitta was swept away by the floods following incessant rains, has been fully operational since Monday evening. According to the District Traffic Police Office, Jhapa, traffic started from 6 pm on Monday after the diversion was repaired.
When the flood swept away the diversion in Kalikhole, the east-west vehicles had to either exit the brick kiln through the Nakulbanda-Punya intersection or reach the destination via Satighatta from the brick kiln . Now, in this way, the need to travel long distances through rural roads is over.
Earlier, in Bhalukhola in Shivasatakshi Municipality, the highway was put into operation from Monday afternoon after the highway was blocked due to the flood. After incessant rains, the highway was blocked at two places in the district, Shivasatakshi and Mechinagar, when the diversion was swept away by the flood. Now, diversions have been made at both places and the highway has been opened, said Ganesh Paudel, the police chief of the district traffic police.
