Katari Municipality of Udaipur has shifted the citizens of the squatter settlements living in the Khola area to a safe place.
Squatter families living on the banks of Tawa and Chhauri rivers in Katari Municipality-5 Balah, who are at risk of flooding due to heavy rains, have been rescued and kept in a safe place .
According to Rajeshchandra Shrestha, head of Katari Municipality, women, children, disabled and senior citizens were rescued with the help of the police and kept in the hall of Udaipur Industry and Commerce Association.
"Citizens of squatter settlements living in the bus park area were living on the banks of the Tawa River with the expansion of the bus park. Due to the incessant rains, the squatter settlements in Balah became more dangerous. We rescued them in a municipal vehicle on Saturday night and brought them to a safe place," said City Chief Shrestha.
Shrestha said that until the risk subsides, they will be provided facilities with food and accommodation in the hall of the commercial association. More than a hundred families have been living temporarily.
