2 people died and 13 others were injured when a passenger bus met with an accident on the east-west highway in front of Birtamod Municipality-6 Giri Bandhu T-State in Jhapa on Friday morning.
According to the area police office Anarmani, the accident occurred when the Everest Transport bus (P 1-01-001 B 4459) which was going from Biratnagar towards Kakdvitta suddenly went out of control and overturned on the road at around 9:30 am. Police said the driver fled after the accident.
The deceased are 46-year-old Dinesh Kumar Bhattarai of Sunsari, Itahari-11 and 42-year-old Rajkumar Chaudhary of Morang, Rangeli-2. Police said Chaudhary was the contactor of the bus.
The injured are Gulshanraj Sharma of Itahri, his wife Ankita Sharma and daughter Mansui Sharma, Binu Sharma, Somkumar Bhujel (co-driver) of Morang, Ganga Limbu of Panchthar, Lojihang Lavati, Suhana Limbu and Mengso Limbu of Jhapa, Anusha Bhattarai of Morang, Manju Khatiwada, Radhika Khatiwada of Jhapa and Rakesh of Taplejung. Lalimbu is there.
Police said that the injured were rescued and taken to B&C Hospital in Birtamod for treatment. The condition of some of the injured is said to be moderate.
The police have informed that the search for the absconding driver is continuing.
