When a pickup coming from the tunnel towards Birtamod and a van traveling from the opposite direction collided, the driver of the van was killed and 4 people from the same house were injured.
One person died and four others were injured when a pick-up truck and a Maruti van collided at the Biring Khola bridge located in Kankai-8 under the East-West highway.
At around 9:00 a.m., the pick-up May 1 Ch 5446 coming from the tunnel towards Birtamod and the van May 1 Ch 3440 coming from the opposite direction collided.
The driver of the van died in the accident, the police said. According to the police, the deceased has not been fully identified. The driver of the van, who was injured in the accident, was immediately rescued and taken to BNDC Hospital in Birtamod. As soon as he was taken to the hospital, the doctor declared him dead.
Similarly, 40-year-old Prithvinath Shah, his wife 37-year-old Punam Devi Shah, son Prasanna Shah and daughter Prinsa Shah of Shivsatakshi-7 were injured in the same accident. According to the police, they are being treated at BNDC Hospital in Birtamod.
Pickup and pickup driver Suman Paudel, 24, of Mahalakshmi Municipality-8, Dhankuta District, has been detained by the police. The police informed that an investigation is being conducted on the cause of the accident.
