The Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Koshi Province Committee has announced a phased movement saying that the 'Koshi Province Mass Media Bill' registered in the Provincial Assembly by the Koshi Province Government is a direct attack on the journalism sector and freedom of expression.

The Federation has held that the provisions contained in the Bill are against the spirit and spirit of full press freedom guaranteed by the Constitution and demanded its complete repeal. In a statement issued by Secretary General Himakumari Chemjong on Saturday, it is said, 'The bill passed by the Justice Administration and Legislation Committee and submitted to the Provincial Assembly is brought with the intention of violating the journalistic profession and freedom, so it is not acceptable.'

On the 8th of August, after all-sided discussions with various media-related organizations and stakeholders, the federation announced the first phase of the pressure program. On August 9, journalists across the state will alert the government and the state assembly to correct the bill through a social media campaign, on the 10th, they will meet the chief minister, departmental ministers and parliamentary party leaders to draw formal attention, and journalists will hold a statewide demonstration with the slogan 'repeal anti-press freedom provisions', on the 11th, state journalists will send a direct message to the state assembly members of their respective districts to protest, on the 12th, sit-in program in front of the chief minister's office and the district administration office at the district level, and on the 13th, the first phase of the protest. As a conclusion, it is said that a dharna will be held at Devkota Chowk in Biratnagar at 1 pm.

According to the officials of the Federation of Journalists, if the provincial government and the Assembly are not interested in revising or canceling the bill, preparations are being made to announce a tougher protest in the second phase.
