A landslide has occurred in the Hungung section of Bhotkhola under the Koshi highway. Highway traffic has been completely blocked due to landslides. This highway connecting from Khandbari to Kimathan naka was closed due to a huge landslide that occurred near Hungung for about 115 km section.
Ram Bahadur Gurung, head of the Koshi North-Dakshini Road Plan, said that traffic was completely stopped due to a landslide on the road of about 300 meters.
'All traffic has been blocked after a landslide mixed with large stones, mud and bushes fell on the road,' he said. He says that it is difficult to remove the landslide immediately due to the wet terrain. 'There is no condition to use the machine due to heavy falling of stones and mud, which has made the work even more complicated,' Gurung added.
Three days ago, the highway was blocked due to the landslide, which affected the transportation of goods such as daily consumables, fuel, construction materials, etc., he said.
'Even though landslides occur in this area every year during the rainy season because the road is under construction, it is not yet decided when it will be opened because this time the landslide is too big,' he said. The project's technical team continues to try to clear the landslide, but wet ground and continuous rains have added to the challenge.
It is not certain when the Koshi highway, which has been blocked for three days, will be reopened.
