Keeping in mind the increasing risk of dengue disease, a comprehensive search and destruction awareness program has been conducted in Sankhuwasabha for mosquito control.
A special campaign was launched in Khandbari on Thursday with the main slogan, 'Let's clean the places where water has accumulated in and around the house where mosquitoes can breed, and let's destroy the mosquito breeding'.
Health Office Sankhuwasabha and Khandbari Municipality jointly organized the event to search and clean all the possible places where mosquitoes can breed inside the garage, the water frozen in the tires, the dishes in the open area, the garbage, the vases, the water tanks, the places where the grass is kept, the mushrooms and the bushes.
In addition to destroying mosquito eggs and larvae, local residents have been asked to pay special attention to cleanliness around their homes. Representatives of Nepali Army, Nepal Police, students, local clubs and social organizations actively participated in the campaign. The team participating in the
program, along with cleaning, also did the work of pulling bushes, managing garbage, and turning over and drying the dishes that may freeze.
Chief of the District Coordination Committee (JIS) Suman Shakya expressed concern that dengue has spread to Sankhuwasabha in the Himalayan district and said that cleanliness should be kept a priority. "It is not only the government that controls dengue, awareness and activity of every citizen is essential," he said. He said that due to the continuous increase in the number of patients, the District Health, Khandbari Municipality has intensified the awareness program at the community level.
"The Aedes aegypti mosquito usually bites in the morning and evening," he said, "because it lays eggs in clean water, stagnant water around the house is the biggest risk." From small pots to tires, pots, tanks, vases or even pots without open lids, it is emphasized that regular cleaning should be done because mosquitoes breed easily. During the
program, students and local club volunteers distributed pamphlets to the community with dengue symptoms, preventive measures and awareness messages. Also, everyone was appealed to continue cleanliness as a continuous campaign.
