The Koshi Refreshment Center, which was launched by the Koshi State Government as a 'Gouravko Yojana' to make the busy East-West highway easy and convenient, is now ready to be operated by the private sector.

According to the Investment Authority Board, the process of handing over this project under construction to the private sector for 30 years in the Katan area of Koshi Rural Municipality of Sunsari has started.

The government has spent around 30 million rupees to build the structure of the center . But now its long-term operation, management and further development will be in charge of the private sector.

It was the government's goal to develop this center as a modern resting place for tired travelers on the long journey of the East-West highway to rest, eat, drink, health care and other necessary facilities. However, due to lack of budget, change of government and policy delays, the work was slowed down throughout the project period . Now, this plan is expected to flourish in the investment and management of the private sector.

Investment Authority Board Chief Executive Dr. According to Saroj Koirala, Koshi Refreshment Center was placed in 'Sokes' during the investment conference held on 18th and 19th Baisakh. "When the letter of intent was requested, three private companies have shown interest in operating the center," said Koirala, "Currently, the evaluation process of those companies is underway." A proposal will be requested from one of the selected companies.

The selected company will be entrusted with the operation of the center for 30 years, which will present an additional investment plan of more than 4 billion rupees.

In the initial period, the then Chief Minister Rai had set up a separate office at the project site for the project work and proceeded with the construction work. After the change of power, when the government led by Rajendra Kumar Rai of CPN United Socialists came, then the office was canceled and the Urban Development Office was entrusted to Morang. Infrastructure Development Office Sunsari has been supervising this project since last July 1.

According to Engineer Suresh Prasad Sah of Infrastructure Development Office, Sunsari, the state government has completed the first phase of construction of buildings, police stations, health posts, restaurants, traffic posts, public toilets, petrol pumps, walls, etc.

"After the government prepares the infrastructure, the responsibility of operation is ready to be transferred to the private sector," Shah said. An additional budget of 3 crore rupees has also been allocated for the center for this financial year. According to the Investment Board, the Center is likely to be handed over to the private sector from the end of August or the first week of October.

The then Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai laid the foundation stone of the project on November 24, 2077. A detailed project report (DPR) was prepared at a cost of 47 lakh 6 thousand rupees for this center spread over an area of 22 bighas. After the operation of

refreshment center, it is expected that a large amount of employment will be created at the local level, business will flourish and new opportunities will open in tourism promotion .

Bhavesh Kumar Shrestha, a businessman from Biratnagar, says, "Since all the facilities from the bus park to the restaurant will be in one place, not only business, but also tourism is expected to flourish." It will not only facilitate long-distance commuters but also boost the local economy to new heights .
