81-year-old Batuli Maya Dahal, who was seriously injured in a fire due to a gas cylinder leakage in a tunnel in Kankai Municipality-3 of Jhapa, died on Thursday during treatment.

Dahal, a resident of Taplejung, was living alone with a tent on the second floor of Dhruv Shrestha's three-storey concrete house in Kankai-3 tunnel. On July 22 last morning at around 7:15 a.m. while cooking, the gas cylinder leaked and the fire broke out suddenly. After the incident, Dahal, who was seriously burnt, was immediately rushed to the Kankai Nagar Hospital tunnel. After treatment was not possible there, she was sent to B&C Hospital in Birtamod for further treatment and was referred to Burn Hospital in Kirtipur after her condition became complicated.  

Dahal, who was brought home from the hospital on Tuesday, died on Thursday morning after her health did not improve even after continuous treatment, the police said.

After the incident, the body has been kept at Mechi Regional Hospital, Bhadrapur for post-mortem. According to the police, there was also a financial loss worth about two lakh rupees due to the fire.
