Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ishwar Karki of Koshi Province Police Office Biratnagar has expressed interest in the security situation, infrastructure and tourism potential of Sankhuwasabha district.
DIG Karki, who arrived in Khandbari on Tuesday, discussed security arrangements in the district, social crime control, drug abuse and surveillance of foreign nationals with stakeholders.
Karki asserted that there has been significant improvement in the police organization in recent years in terms of personnel, infrastructure and technology, and said that not only the police, but all levels of participation is necessary in building a safe society. "The police need everyone's help," he said, "There is no problem if the hotel is operated all night without causing any inconvenience to the society, but if there is a complaint or there is a fight, legal action will be taken."
He mentioned that Sankhuwasabha is a district with great potential in terms of tourism and said that the roads, checkpoints and geographical conditions here have made security more sensitive. Taking direct information about the condition of the Kimathanka-Khandbari road section and the Kimathanka crossing, he discussed the security concerns there with the stakeholders. He clarified that the difficult geographical situation, lack of communication services and the presence of large projects have made the district more sensitive.
District Coordinating Committee Chief Suman Shakya emphasized in Sankhuwasabha that they should be cautious about security as large and small hydropower projects including Arun III are in operation. "It is necessary to pay special attention to the surveillance of foreign citizens, drug control and domestic violence control," he said.
With the expansion of urban areas, drug users are increasing and the local stakeholders demanded to take strict measures to reduce it. Similarly, the participants emphasized that since the incidents of sensitive crimes such as extortion have increased, the community should also carry out public awareness activities along with the police. The demand to expand CC cameras in the district was also raised.
