The representatives of organizations related to women's rights in the district have submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the chief district officer, demanding that the draft law that the government is going to introduce with the provision to allow polygamy be scrapped.
Women's Unity Study Center, Women's Human Rights Defenders Network, Federation of Non-Governmental Organizations and Inter-Party Women's Network Khotang have jointly submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli through Chief District Officer Kalpana Shrestha, saying that the government is going to introduce a law to allow polygamy, which violates the spirit of Nepal's Constitution 2072.

"When the Criminal Code 2074 has come into effect from August 1, 2075, the law that the government is going to bring to exempt polygamy under certain circumstances will not be accepted at any price", the memorandum says, "We draw the serious attention of the Nepalese government to cancel the said backward draft, if the process is forcibly extended, we will be forced to take strict action."
