In Taplejung, where planting starts from the second week of May, after the third week of July, 25 percent planting is yet to be done. Due to lack of sufficient rain, the farmers could not plant on time.

According to Krishi Gyan Kendra Taplejung, 75 percent planting has been completed. Farmers of this region are still optimistic because even those planted till the first week of August in Aul region will bear good fruit. According to Vijay Shrestha, Agricultural Extension Officer of Krishi Gyan Kendra Taplejung, 96 percent planting was done by the third week of July last year. "Compared to last year, there is a lot less," said Officer Shrestha, "Most of the rice cultivation areas have to rely on rainwater, so there is a problem due to lack of rain."

Planting has been done on time in the area with irrigation canals. In Taplejung, rice is cultivated on an area of 5,666 hectares. They are also planting advanced varieties of paddy such as Belguti, Bhangere, Atte, Manipure to advanced varieties such as Sukkha-1 and Khumal-4.
