The head of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality Teerthraj Bhattarai has broken his hunger strike with various seven-point demands including the promotion of local products including bamboo.

Bhattarai broke his hunger strike on Sunday after agreeing on various 16 points with the government.

Bhattarai was given dubo, tulsa, and mango leaf juice by Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi and Health Minister Pradeep Poudel, who broke his fast around 7:00 p.m. "Mayorsap's demands were mostly fulfilled, then the hunger strike was broken," said Ghimire.

Bhattarai sat on hunger strike from 11th to 13th July and hunger strike from 14th to 18th. Bhattarai went from satyagraha to hunger strike by the decision of the 13th Municipal Assembly held on June 9 of the municipality.

Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality Spokesperson Ghimire, Urban Development Ministry Joint Secretary Narayan Prasad Mainali, Forest and Environment Ministry Joint Secretary Buddhisagar Paudel have signed various 16-point memorandum of understanding. It is mentioned in the memorandum of understanding that bamboo building codes and norms will be approved and implemented within 45 days after completion of all the procedures by the Ministry of Urban Development to promote bamboo.

Similarly, the Ministry of Urban Development will conduct a capacity building program for local technicians from the current financial year, the Ministry of Forestry and Environment will request all provincial governments and local levels to promote multi-purpose bamboo for the improvement of rural economy and livelihood, and it is mentioned that the Ministry of Forestry and Environment will conduct a national bamboo campaign with multifaceted programs nationwide from next year. 

Similarly, the Ministry of Forestry and Environment will prepare a technical manual to develop Khotang as the capital of bamboo and develop it as a bamboo study and promotion area, plant bamboo and other fast-growing and income-generating species of trees and promote greenery, and involve the state and local levels in formulating policies, plans and programs related to climate change adaptation and mitigation at the national and local levels to reduce the effects and risks of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is mentioned that effective and result-oriented implementation will be carried out in coordination and cooperation with related agencies.

Since Nepal is very sensitive to climate risks, the government has been raising its voice in important world and regional forums regarding climate justice. In the future, Nepal should complete all the procedures necessary to benefit from the carbon trade and ensure the dividend details received from the carbon trade based on contribution to all its stakeholders. In terms of reducing plastic pollution, to discourage plastic packaging and lead waste, refuse, reduce, and reduce plastic pollution. It has been mentioned that the concept of reuse, recycle, recover will be carried forward under the leadership of the Ministry of Forest and Environment in coordination with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply, Ministry of Finance, local government, experts and stakeholders, and it will be studied and implemented within 6 months by the Ministry of Forestry to facilitate the collection, utilization and internal supply of fallen, dry stands and other usable wood in the forest.  In the

agreement, it is mentioned that the construction of development projects or physical structures will be strictly controlled without environmental studies, environmental studies will be conducted according to the rules, and environmental reports will be implemented by writing letters to the environmental department and provincial ministries of environment. 

Similarly, it is mentioned that bamboo, indigenous wood or indigenous goods or materials produced in Nepal should be purchased, in the first step all agencies under the Ministry of Forestry and Environment should prioritize the purchase and use of indigenous goods and implement the guidelines approved by the Government of Nepal with due diligence.

It is mentioned that after studying mitigation measures including sterilization of monkeys, consultation with experts about sterilization of monkeys and other mitigation measures will be carried out throughout the country based on the results obtained from Khotang district in this financial year, emphasis will be placed on the study and research of bamboo and beed.
