The barracks built to house Chinese workers of the Upper Tamor hydropower project were vandalized on Friday morning. According to the project, 13 windows, 6 doors, 1 halogen lamp and other structures were vandalized.

Tamor Energy project coordinator Yakkan Thapa Chhetri claimed that the group which has been fighting against the project has vandalized it. He claims that the coordinator Virbal Linkhim himself is also involved in this.

Virbal Linkhim, coordinator of 'Upper Tamor Sangharsh Samiti' claimed that they did not vandalize and were raising their demands peacefully. 'The movement I led is peaceful,' he said on the telephone, 'I am surprised that the vandalism happened today.' In Mundhumi site of Limbu community, the local people have protested by forming the Hydropower Navnaun Sangarsh Committee.

As soon as the news was received that the workers' barracks were vandalized, a team was deployed from the police station Siwa . "When we arrived at the spot under the leadership of a police sub-inspector from Sinwa Chowki, it was found that vandalism had taken place," said Vivek Basnet, police inspector and information officer of the district police office.
