Japanese encephalitis has been confirmed in two people in Mechinagar within two weeks. 36 and 55-year-old women of Mechinagar 3 and 5 have been diagnosed with this disease 13 days apart, the city's health department has confirmed.

After two people were diagnosed with this disease in a short period of time, a team from the World Health Organization and the Family Welfare Division under the Department of Health Services has arrived in Mechinagar.

World Health Organization representative Dr. Sonia Bhagat and Uttar Koirala, senior public health officer of the Family Welfare Division, have arrived in Mechinagar. They reached the place of infection and discussed with the locals.

According to Savita Sapkota, Head of City Health Branch, although the location of this disease is different from ward to ward, it is the neighboring villages, which are close to each other. She informed that the 36-year-old woman of Mechinagar 3 returned home after treatment, but the 55-year-old woman of Mechinagar 5 was being treated in an unconscious state.

He is being treated at Virta City Hospital in Virtamod. "He is in a coma, the condition is serious," says Sapkota, head of the health department, "Even though the woman of Mechinagar 3 has returned to treatment, the speech is not complete." Later the sample was collected and sent to National Laboratory Teku and BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences Dharan for testing. A June test confirmed Japanese encephalitis, Sapkota says.

In a short period of time, the health department of the city has also been activated after two people got sick. "We are carrying out activities such as monitoring, conducting various awareness programs, and discussing with the locals," she said. It can affect people of any age, but is especially common in children under the age of 15. However, recently, health officials say that the disease has increased in people older than children.

The symptoms of this disease are severe headache, high fever, fainting, throat stiffness, and shivering. The diagnosis of this disease is not so easy. The presence/absence of this disease is tested by extracting the water from the back.

According to representatives of the World Health Organization, Japanese encephalitis has been confirmed in 9 people across the country in 2025. Nine people have been diagnosed with this disease, two each in Jhapa and Morang in Koshi province, four in Madhesh and one in Chitwan in Bagmati province. According to the health officer, one person died due to this disease in Morang. However, the Nepal government has not officially confirmed the death.
