United Mewa Hydro with a capacity of 50 MW will start production from October. This project, which has completed 99 percent of the work so far, said that it is working on the final phase of power house, tunnel, main turbine connection.
If the production starts in October, this will be the second power plant in the district with a large production capacity. Earlier, production of 73 megawatts has started from the Madhyamor hydropower project. According to the public relations officer of the project, Aslal Kedem, the entire work will be completed in July and August and the trial production will be started. This is also the biggest project to be produced from Mewa river.
It has its structure in Meringden and Mikwakhola Rural Municipality. According to Engineer Omprakash Choudhary, there is a 4,800 meter long tunnel. Geologist Rajendra Bhatt claimed that United Mewa will be a strong and sustainable project throughout the country as the tunnels are built in strong places.
The production here will be connected to the 132 kVA substation transmission line of Nepal Electricity Authority in Maiwakhola rural municipality-1 Dhungesanghu. The distance from the base of Meringden rural municipality-3 Khamlung, where the power house is located, to the sub-station is eight kilometers. According to the project, 28 towers will be built and delivered to the broadcasting center.
Kedem informed that the project is about to be completed at a cost of nine billion. Meringden Rural Municipality-5 Thukima and Mikwakhola Rural Municipality-3 Libang Puchhar Nawa area of the project has a dam.
