In the fiscal year 2081/82 (July-June), 95 people lost their lives due to 1,296 vehicle accidents in the district. A thousand 934 people were injured in the accident while 139 people were seriously injured.
According to Chief Police Inspector Ganesh Paudel of District Traffic Police Office, Jhapa, 52 thousand 875 drivers have been punished during one year. A revenue of 3 crore 95 lakh 55 thousand 560 rupees has been collected from that action.
3 thousand 174 people have been prosecuted under drunkenness (MAPSE), from which more than 1.8 million rupees fine has been collected, Police Inspector Paudel informed. According to traffic police inspector Paudel, 8 thousand 461 students of school level have been given classes on traffic rules and 1 thousand 250 people have been given road awareness training under the traffic awareness program across the district. Meanwhile, he said, making traffic management technology-friendly, Traffic Violation Record System (TVRUS) and online fine payment system have been implemented in the district.
In the last fiscal year 2081/82, the office has used 70 reflector belts, 30 traffic sign boards, 4 magic lights, 3 breathalyzers, 7 computers, 1 Gopro camera and 1 laptop for traffic regulation. Traprani Poudel said that various local levels, schools, hospitals, media organizations and community centers have collaborated in the traffic improvement campaign. According to him, the program aimed at students from classes 6 to 10, auto-city drivers, and other aspects of the society has conveyed the message of common efforts in road safety.
