A laborer died of suffocation while opening the septic tank of an under-construction cooperative society building in Falgunand Rural Municipality-5.
38-year-old Ratna Chemjong died of suffocation when he was going to remove wood and bamboo used during the slope of the septic tank of the under-construction building of Ghurvise Panchami Cooperative Society located in Falgunand-5.
According to District Police Office Panchthar, they were found unconscious at around 5:30 on Wednesday evening.
District Police Office Panchthar Information Officer (Police Inspector) Rupesh Tamang said that 24-year-old Bhishma Chemjong, 40-year-old Biru Chemjong and 30-year-old Sangeet Chemjong have fainted in the incident.
They have been taken to Ilam Hospital for treatment. After the rescue, when Ratna was brought to Ilam for further treatment, the doctors there declared him dead. Bhishma and Biru, along with Ratna, were laborers working to open the septic tank, while Sangeet fainted while going to the ditch to rescue them. It is said that he has recovered immediately.
After the information that the laborer had fainted, the police and local people along with police sub-inspector Sher Bahadur Rai rescued him from police station Phaktep.
After the efforts of the security personnel and locals were not possible, Rai informed that they were rescued by making a road using an excavator.
According to police assistant inspector Rai, who was involved in the rescue, they fainted due to low oxygen content in the septic tank of about 10 meters height.
