The Koshi state government has spent more than 77 percent of the total budget allocated in the current financial year 2081/82. Despite relatively encouraging progress in the implementation of the budget, it is seen that the priority of spending is focused on physical infrastructure.

According to the State Controller of Accounts Office, out of 35 billion 27 billion 93 million rupees, 27 billion 25 million 6 million rupees have been spent by Wednesday midnight, which is 77.26 percent of the total budget. Looking at the distribution of

expenses, 79.26 percent i.e. 13.82 billion rupees have been spent on capital expenses, while 75.29 percent i.e. 12.42 billion rupees have been spent on current expenses.

High priority for physical infrastructure and energy sector

The regional details of the budget expenditure clearly show that the provincial government has paid more attention to the development of physical infrastructure. The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development has spent 8.55 billion rupees out of 11.19 billion rupees, which is the highest in terms of the ministry.

Likewise, the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy has spent 4.4 billion rupees, which confirms the priority of the government in the infrastructure sector.

4.87 billion 94 million rupees have been spent out of 5.685 million rupees allocated by the province to the local level, which is close to 96 percent. Although priority is given to

development, experts say that more transparency and effectiveness are needed in the implementation of expenditure.
