Lumpy skin infection has been observed in all the local levels of Taplejung except Maivakhola, Mikwakhola and Pathibhara Yangwarak Rural Municipality.
According to Roshan Dahal, Head of Taplejung Veterinary Hospital and Animal Services Expert Center, infection was found in 34 animals of 6 local levels.
According to the samples sent to the provincial laboratory, 10 in Meringden, 8 in Atharraitriveni, 5 in Sirijanga, 2 in Sidingwa, and 2 in Paktanglung have been confirmed infected in animals. Infection has been observed in 7 livestock farms of Fungling municipality. After the infection started appearing, 4,750 cattle have been vaccinated in the last part of this financial year.
There are 25 doses of vaccine in one vial and it has to be administered in one to one and a half hours, so the same number of animals have been prepared and vaccinated, according to the office. Since there is not enough vaccination, the animal office suggests that if you keep the barn clean, burn incense to prevent insect bites, you can protect your livestock from infection.
Last year due to this infection, chaunri and yak died in a big way in the Himalayan area of the district. Dahal claimed that there is no more damage due to vaccination in large herds this year.
