Villagers have safely rescued three people who were trapped inside a house that collapsed due to water retention in the village. 61-year-old Hasta Bahadur Katuwal of Sidingwa Rural Municipality-3 Angkhop, his wife Thugmaya Katuwal and their daughter Mejakan Katuwal were locked inside the house.
According to Hasta Bahadur, at 1 o'clock in the morning (night) on Wednesday, the roof of the house collapsed and the house was buried. The sound of the house collapsing woke up the sons and daughters who were sleeping in the matan. After they caused a stir in the village, the villagers gathered and took all three out at night.
Thagmaya was injured after being hit by stones and debris from the collapsed house. Hasta Bahadur said preparations are being made to take him out of the village for further treatment. Hasta Bahadur and his daughter Yakkan got minor injuries. On Wednesday morning, health workers from Sidingwa rural municipality center Savlakhu Bhanjyang are treating Thugmaya.
According to the neighbor Mausam Limbu, the husband and wife used to live and cook in the house buried by the landslide, while the son and daughter used to live in Matan. Although there is no problem to stay, there is nothing left to eat.
He said that there was nothing from food to utensils and other materials. There has been no heavy rain in Taplejung for three days. However, this is the first incident where landslides have caused damage since the start of this year's rainy season.
