In the last 5 months, 4800 tourists have entered Nepal through Kankarvitta, the eastern border crossing.
Kankarvitta, the immigration office, has informed that 4800 tourists entered Nepal through the eastern route in the 5th month of 2025 (January-May). The number of Indian tourists is not included in the data. Apart from India, this number of tourists came to Nepal from 63 countries.
The office says that 32 tourists are entering Nepal every day through this checkpoint in Sardar. In 2024, there is a data of 6 thousand one hundred and one tourists entering Nepal through this crossing. According to Tulsi Bhattarai, the head of the office, the number of tourists has almost doubled this year compared to 2024.
'In 2024, 17 tourists would enter Nepal every day. Currently, 32 tourists are coming to Nepal every day," Bhattarai said while speaking at a program organized by Press Club Mechinagar in Kankarvitta on Wednesday, "The number of tourists entering Nepal and going to India through this border from Nepal is the same. In 2024, 6,197 tourists went to India through this border.'
According to him, 80 percent of the tourists entering Nepal are Bhutanese and 10 percent are Americans. According to Karaya, tourists from 63 countries including Thailand, Britain, and Australia have entered Nepal through this border.
