An under-construction belay bridge has fallen in Henwa river on Mechi highway. The bridge fell while connecting the river from one side to the other.
When the bridge collapsed, one worker died and three others were injured.
The names and addresses of the workers who were assigned to connect the bridge have not been disclosed. Kaushal Kumar Budhathoki, Deputy Superintendent of Police of District Police Office Panchthar informed that he was also going to the spot after the bridge collapsed.
Preparations are underway to rescue the injured and bring them to Panchthar Hospital. Belybridge was built after the first flood that occurred on June 2, 2080 washed away the concrete bridge built here. Again, on October 12, 2081, after the belibridge was washed away, modular (belibridge) was being built again.
Why and how the bridge fell has not been confirmed. Under the Mechi highway, vehicles are being diverted after the bridge and belay bridge washed away in the Hewa river that separates the border between Fidim and Hilihang of Panchthar.
After the collapse of the Beilibridge under construction, it has been confirmed that Panchthar and Taplejung traffic will be affected.
