Khumbu Pasangalhamu Rural Municipality, where the world's highest peak Mount Everest is located, has collected more than 150 million in revenue from tourism fees alone. The rural municipality has collected revenue of 15 million 13 million 80 thousand rupees for tourism fee from July of the current financial year.

Chetanath Kattel, accounting officer of the rural municipality, informed that the rural municipality has collected more than 140 crores in revenue during the period of 10 months from last July to the end of April.

According to him, 52 lakh 70 thousand rupees have been collected in 11 days from May 1st of this month. Municipality President Mingma Chhiri Sherpa said that the municipality is collecting tourism fee from foreign tourists at the rate of 2 thousand rupees per person and the internal income is being used for the overall development of Khumbu region. 

Tourists from different countries come to visit Everest Base Camp, Thame Valley, Gokyo Valley and Khumbu Valley in three places namely Lukla, Jorasalle and Lukla Helipad, Village Chairman Mingma Chiri Sherpa said. 

A total of 53,370 tourists, including 45,113 foreigners and 8,257 from SAARC countries, have visited the Khumbu region since last July, according to the rural municipality. 

According to the rural municipality, a tourist fee of 2000 rupees per person will be charged from tourists from SAARC countries and China and 3000 rupees per person from tourists from other countries except SAARC.
