Large quantities of illegal seeds seized from various agrovets in Sunsari

A team of the Ministry of Industry, Agriculture and Cooperatives under the Koshi State Government has seized a large quantity of illegal seeds from various places in Sunsari.

The team seized 1,25 kg of illegal rice and other crop seeds from various firms in Sunsari's Inaruwa and Koshi Rural Municipality.

The monitoring team recovered 920 kg of rice seeds of BB-11 variety, 30 kg of MTU-7029 variety seeds, 101 kg of Komal seeds, 65 kg of Sona Mansuli and 4 kg of expired vegetable seeds. Sharankumar Pandey has informed.

Listed and unregistered seeds cannot be sold and distributed in Nepal. Secretary Pandey said that after receiving complaints about illegal seeds being sold, the ministry has intensified monitoring.

The ministry had previously started action against agrovets who were selling low quality Indian seeds by distributing seeds that were not recommended by the government.

In that order, half a dozen agrovets of Sunsari were included. The ministry had started action against more than a dozen agrovets for selling low-quality Indian seeds without selling pulses and oilseeds recommended by the Nepalese government to the farmers of Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari in the eastern Terai.

Based on the complaints of illegally selling low-quality seeds by taking advantage of the open border in Indian border districts, the state government has recommended the federal government's Ministry of Agriculture to monitor those business firms and take action in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act.
