More than 2,000 women have benefited from the breast and cervical cancer screening camp organized in Panchthar. In the two-day camp that started on Friday and ended on Saturday, 2,113 people were tested for various diseases.
Out of 2,113 women who came to the free cancer screening camp organized by Fidim Municipality with the technical support of Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital, 1,502 women underwent cervical and breast examination.
Similarly, 206 people underwent video X-ray, 31 people were tested for the problem of blood loss and 356 people were tested for various complications, according to Mitra Prasad Kafle, the head of the organizing Fidim municipality. 24 women with uterine complications have been referred for surgery among those tested in the camp.
According to city chief Kafle, 37 out of 986 women who were tested for cervical cancer through the HPV kit organized by Fidim municipality last year had cervical cancer, increasing the scope of the test.
Since there is no access to cancer tests outside of Kathmandu and certain cities, when citizens are not able to identify the risk, such camps have been started in Mofasal, Director of Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital Dr. Ujwal Chalise said.
He says that since the virus that causes cancer is already active when people are healthy, such camps will identify the risks and make it easier for the citizens to overcome cancer through appropriate methods. Chalise also said that the women who have been diagnosed with cancer in the
test will be given the appropriate service based on the situation and the operation or treatment will be identified. The beneficiaries who came to the
camp suggested to organize the camp in different places because such a camp would identify the possible complications they might have.
