There is a problem of lack of air fuel depot at Tumlingtar airport in Sankhuwasabha. There is no fuel depot in this airport where the air service is being operated through a 1,400 meter long runway and it is becoming a problem to operate emergency flights.
Due to the lack of fuel depot, there is a problem for tourist rescue, patient rescue, disaster victims and relief rescue. Political parties, businessmen and local residents have demanded the establishment of an aviation fuel depot.
Due to lack of refueling facilities at Tumlingtar Airport, it takes a lot of time and costs to get a helicopter from Kathmandu. In some cases, due to the weather, the residents of the district have been experiencing the death of sick and pregnant women due to the inability of helicopters to come from Kathmandu.
Chief District Officer Divyaraj Pokharel said that the meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee decided to request the establishment of an aviation fuel depot. "If there was a fuel filling facility in Tumlingtar, arrangements could be made to keep the helicopter in Tumlingtar," said Prazia Pokhel, "Taking the Tumlingtar area as a base, it would be possible to rescue tourists, rescue patients, rescue disaster victims and provide relief."
Correspondence has been made to the Central Office of Nepal Oil Corporation, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply and the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation for the establishment of an aviation fuel depot, he said.
