The Parliament's Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee has started to understand the human rights situation of the citizens of the intermediate areas around the reserves and parks. Based on the complaint that the human rights of the citizens of the central region are being violated due to the conflict between humans and wildlife, the committee started conducting on-site monitoring and taking suggestions.

The team that arrived at Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve on Wednesday will interact, discuss and monitor with the locals of the intermediate area for three days.

As part of the same program, the committee gathered the locals of the central area at the Kositappu Wildlife Sanctuary on Wednesday and collected their complaints and suggestions. Locals who participated in the

interaction complained that since the area of the reserve is small, the fear of wild animals has increased, and the process for the victims to get compensation and relief is complicated. They said that due to the lack of coordination between the three levels of government, the locals could not benefit from the reserve.

Locals expressed the pain caused by wild animals on a daily basis and requested that the compensation law be improved. Residents have complained that wild animals such as elephants and deer destroy houses and eat crops, making daily life difficult.

Ravin Ghimir, a local leader, complained that there was a problem in getting compensation for eating crops planted by wild animals. "There is a provision to give crop compensation only once a year, but farmers plant three crops a year, they cannot claim compensation for that crop," said Ghimire.

He asked the parliamentarians to make the crop compensation rules easier by revising them. He said that Kositappu can be protected only if the area of Kositappu Wildlife Sanctuary is expanded. Similarly, local Chakra Timsina said that Kositappu Wildlife Sanctuary is full of domestic stray animals. Timsina, who has been working as a bird watcher, told about the current situation.

Bhupendra Yadav, senior conservation officer of Kositappu Wildlife Reserve, informed the committee that there is a problem in management due to lack of laws related to the reserve. Stating that stray animals are the main problem in Koshi Tappu, conservation officer Yadav informed that there is no provision for controlling stray animals in the existing law, there is no separate regulation of the reserve, some provisions related to crop compensation have caused problems in compensation distribution.  He asked the committee to address the legal issues that have been seen as

s. He told the committee that there is a need to expand Kositappu Wildlife Area. Recalling that the study report 10 years ago also suggested expansion, Conservation Officer Yadav said that along with the increase in the number of wild animals, the area of the reserve should also be expanded.

After the complaint of the locals, committee chairperson Bimala Subedi informed that tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, the committee will make a solid plan and discuss it in the committee. Committee member Ranju Jha informed that after Koshitappu, the committee has a program to collect suggestions by discussing and monitoring with the locals in the intermediate areas of Dhorpatan, Shuklaphanta and Chitwan National Park.
