Gangs involved in drug trafficking are becoming more active in Jhapa. On Monday morning, the police recovered a large amount of drugs by aerial firing in Kankai Municipality-5 Lower Chapramari.

The police team deployed on the basis of secret information that drugs were being imported from India stopped the motorcycle number BR 37T 9198 coming from Sharnamati towards the tunnel at around 8:40 in the morning. But,  As soon as they saw the police, the driver left the motorcycle and the bag and ran away.

"After the fugitive ran away to the maize field, two rounds were fired from a rifle in the air for control," said SP Rajan Limbu of District Police Office Jhapa.

About 200 grams of drug that looks like brown heroin has been recovered from the bag left at the scene. The police also seized the motorcycle.

Earlier, the police had to fire in the air in an attempt to control drugs in the same area. Such incidents which have been repeated continuously are a sign that the illegal drug trade in the border areas has not yet been brought under control.

The fugitive may be a person of Indian origin and the police said that the search operation is continuing.
