Tapli rural municipality-5 Tilkechaur of Udaipur is going to be made a 'model Dalit settlement'. On Sunday, Tapli rural municipality organized a program and announced that Tilkechaur Dalit settlement with 54 families will be made a 'model Dalit settlement'.
Dhungraj Bishwakarma, chairman of the rural municipality, said that despite being close to the center of the rural municipality, the slums that are backward economically, socially, educationally and politically will be upgraded to become model settlements.
He said that 11 indicative preparatory work has been started to make a model settlement by improving the economic, social and cultural conditions of the Dalit community of Tilkechaur. It is said that for the construction of a model settlement, courtyards, toilet cleaning, clean drinking water, regular use of soapy water, use of smokeless and technology-oriented stoves, regularity of children in school and direct supervision of parents, regular maintenance and cleaning of roads, gutters, etc.
The goal of the municipality is to emphasize nutritious food and healthy diet, animal husbandry, vegetable farming, fish farming, fruit farming and agricultural products. To build a civilized, harmonious and beautiful Dalit settlement, the plan is to discourage the production, sale, distribution and consumption of alcoholic beverages, to focus on I&R using professional skills and technology, to plant trees on vacant and deserted land, and to conduct programs for Dalit rights and empowerment, said Ray's president Vishwakarma. In the initial phase of the
campaign, a drinking water scheme has been conducted with the financial and technical support of Human Rights and Environment Development Center (Hurendek) at a cost of 14 lakhs. From which it is believed that clean drinking water and irrigation facilities for Karesabari will be available in Tilkechaur settlement.
On the day of the inauguration, 48 households have been distributed modern smokeless stoves with the help of the Helping Hands Group (SAHAS) Nepal. Sahas Nepal Facilitator Belu Sundas said that the use of traditional stoves is seriously affecting women's health.
With the financial support of 3 lakhs from the rural municipality, construction of vegetable gardens and vegetable cultivation have also been started in Dalit settlements. Chairman Bishwakarma said that the vegetables grown in Tilkechaur will be consumed within the rural municipality and the rest will be transported from Katari to Kathmandu through the agricultural ambulance of the municipality. There is a plan to organize Dalit settlements and run home stays.
Kumar Nepali, chairman of Tilkechaur Model Basti Committee, said that since all the people of the community are working hard to make a model Dalit settlement, other organizations, state and federal government are needed.
