Under the Tamor Corridor project, the work of blackening the Dhankuta-Panchthar section has gained momentum. An agreement was reached in January 2079 to cover 110 km of road from Mulghat in Dhankuta to Ganeshchowk in Panchthar under the road which was promoted by the federal government as a pride project.
This road has also been established as a fast route from Terai to the mountains. Out of the 110 km, Rautaha Kshamadevi JV is working on a contract for 64 km from Mulghat in Dhankuta to Kummayak (Hangthuwa) in Panchthar and Apex Construction Services for 46 km from Hangthuwa to Ganeshchowk.
Out of 64 km of the first section, 35 km of roads have been paved, and the construction side aims to complete the asphalting of another 29 km before the end of June. However, the construction side claims that there is a problem when the payment of completed work is stopped.
According to Pradip Niraula, head of the Tamor Corridor project, about 24 million rupees have yet to be paid after the builders completed the work and submitted the bill. He said that since the budget did not come to the project office, the businessmen could not be paid. 35 km out of 64 km of the first section and 2.67 km out of 46 km of the second section of the
project have been paved. Jairam Adhikari, information officer of the Tamor Corridor project, says that Rautaha, which has the responsibility of laying the first section, has achieved 66 percent physical progress and 64 percent financial progress so far.
The work of placing traffic signals and calling is starting immediately. If the work continues at this pace, the work of the first section will be completed before the end of June,' said the official. Apex Construction Services, which has taken responsibility for paving the second section, is working at a slow pace.
Although the financial progress of the company, which is responsible for black-lining from Hanthuwa to Ganesh Chowk, is 50 percent and the physical progress is 53 percent, only 2.67 percent of the black-lining work has been completed. Rajan Bastola, the managing director of Apex Company, which is responsible for black-lining in the said section, admitted that the internal reasons of the company were not able to work as much.
APEX's responsibility is from Hanthuwa in Kummayak Rural Municipality to Fidim-4 Salghari.
Rautaha Kshamadevi (JV) has advanced the work by signing a contract for 2 billion 99 crores to pave the 64 km road from Mulghat to Hanthuwa in Dhankuta. For the remaining 46 km, it is working with Apex Construction Services, which has contracted for 1.44 billion rupees.
Mulghat Ganesh Chowk 112 kilometers of black tarmac, the total cost of which is 4 billion 43 crores. This road is being paved with asphalt technology. Tamor Corridor starts from Chatra in Sunsari and ends at Tiptala in Taplejung.
It takes only 6 hours for the citizens of Panchthar to reach Biratnagar, the capital of Koshi province through Dharan in Sunsari, and 8 hours for the citizens of Taplejung from the capital Fungling. To reach Biratnagar or Dharan via Mechi Highway via Ilam-Jhapa, it takes at least 9 hours from Panchthar and 12 hours from Taplejung.
The citizens of this area have been using this road as a 'fast track' because it is quick and easy to get down from the mountains to the plains through this road dug along the banks of Tamor river. After the completion of this road, the citizens of Panchthar, Taplejung, Tehrathum and Dhankuta will be facilitated.
The government spent 6 billion 150 million rupees to open the track of this road. The office has already entered into a contract to construct a motor bridge in seven different places of the 110 km section that is going to be blacked out. Tamor Corridor Road Project said.
The total length of Tamor Corridor connecting from Olangchungola in Taplejung to Chatra in Sunsari is 238 km. The construction of this road was started in 2065.
