The group close to the Maoist center Biratnagar Metropolitan City Committee, Deputy General Secretary Janardhan Sharma has won a miraculous victory in the election field. Although the establishment party adopted the strategy of prolonging the session to stop the election process, the organized preparation and strategic mobilization of the Janardhan group finally managed to win the result in their favor.

In the inaugural session of the Mahanagara Convention, President Pushpa Kamal Dahal instructed to select the leadership by consensus without factionalism. However, when internal competition got out of control, elections became inevitable.

Dinesh Rajvanshi Dev of the Janardan Group won the chairmanship from the 81-member Mahanagara Committee with a clear majority by getting 46 votes. Namita Neupane, candidate of Dahal party, was limited to 35 votes. Sanoj Kumar Yadav, Dharmalal Majhi and Chandra Bahadur Van won the vice-chairmanship of the committee. Sonu Kewat won as secretary and Dinesh Kumar Yadav as joint secretary.

The Janardhan group is led by Shivkumar Mandal. Leaders including MP Amanlal Modi, Jeevan Acharya, Kulprasad Samba from the Dahal party played an active role in the election preparation and mobilization.
