The police arrested a young man who was involved in a series of thefts in the Dhankuta market area on the pretext of raising expenses to go abroad.
The district police office on Wednesday announced two people including 26-year-old Shobit Khadka of Dhankuta Municipality-6 Patle, the main accused involved in the theft through a press conference. According to the police, there have been thefts in marts, cooperatives, money transfers, grocery stores and government offices since April 2. According to the police, there have been five incidents of theft in a series.
Police has released two laptops, mobile phones and various materials used in the theft along with 162 thousand 470 cash recovered from the arrested Khadka. On the night of Baisakh 2, two incidents took place on the same day. It is reported that two laptops were stolen from the Richmond Mart at the house of Abhishek Karmacharya at Dhankuta municipality-5 on Thursday and from the quarters of the Road Division office at Dhankuta-4.
Similarly, on May 7, Dhankuta-6 Shivpark near Jamuna Shrestha's house, 95,000 cash, CC camera and 6 checks were stolen from the shutter of Kantipur Air Travel and Tours Pvt. Ltd. operated by Krishna Prasad Dahal, the police said. On May 18, two incidents happened on the same day. In which 10 thousand 270 cash was stolen from the office of Drinking Water and Sanitation Consumer Committee located in Dhankuta-6. On the same day, 29 thousand 470 cash was stolen from Saathi Savings and Loan Consumer Cooperative Society of Dhankuta-7. Along with the main accused in the
theft incident, the police also released Hari Bahadur Shrestha of Dhankuta-6 Beach Bazaar. According to the police, he was taken into custody for investigation based on the purchase of a laptop stolen by Khadka. He bought a laptop for 16,000.
It has been revealed that he has been committing serial theft while staying in a hotel in Dhankuta market. District Police Office Chief SP Shyamsin Choudhary informed that the main accused was arrested from Bhanuchok in Dharan on Tuesday in coordination with Dhankuta and Area Police Office Dharan. He said that the case against both the accused who are in custody has been initiated in the district court for the offense of theft under Chapter 20 of the Criminal Code 2074. It is said that Khadka has given a statement to the police that he started stealing around one and a half lakh rupees while going to Romania.
