Amid internal disputes and dissatisfaction, the new leadership of the Morang District Committee of the CPN United Socialist Party was announced on Sunday.
On the sixth day of the session, Chandraveer Rai has again been assigned the responsibility of the president in the list posted at the party office in Biratnagar. Rai was also the chairman in the previous term.
Uddhav Pokharel, who is a contender for the post of president, was proposed to be made vice-president by the party presidency. However, Pokharel's name was removed from the list after he flatly refused the proposal of the chairmanship. Pokharel was previously the vice president of the district committee. He was claiming the post of president.
Pokharel was pressured by the party leadership to repeat the position of vice president after Rai became the president again. But he refused. Rai has been elected as the president and Deepak Dhakal as the vice president. The names of Tulsi Dhakal as Secretary, DB Thapa, Bhupal Basnet and Sumitra Rai as Deputy Secretary are mentioned.
The leaders who have sent the representatives from house to house to choose the leadership from among themselves claimed to have announced the list of the district committee 'consensually', but the workers expressed dissatisfaction and termed this step as a 'decision imposed by the centre'. explained.
A female leader said, "Representatives have been made without a role. An undemocratic and transparent exercise was done by announcing the names without making the candidacy public.'
Party President Madhav Kumar Nepal inaugurated the convention on March 19. The session was supposed to end in 2 days. But, Due to confusion in the leadership selection process, the time was stretched to 6 days.
Meanwhile, the Baldev Chaudhary-led chairmanship announced a 78-member district committee. It is said that 13 members will be added later. However, shortly after the list was posted, Morang workers reached Itahari to meet Chaudhary.
