The Koshi state government has sent a surgeon to District Hospital Taplejung. Hand surgery fellow expert Dr. Pranam Jayaru claimed that 'Appendix, hernia, piles, fissure, fistula, golagatha and emergency operations on stomach, limbs and other operations will be done at Taplejung District Hospital. He also said that he has already started this process.
Jayaru, who has also served as the head of the district hospital, has previously worked at the Sankhuwasabha District Hospital for two years. "The government has adopted a policy of sending specialist doctors to remote and extremely remote areas," he said.
He said that since he is also the chief doctor of the hospital, it is his responsibility to arrange the necessary equipment.
District Hospital has the infrastructure for ICU operation but it cannot be operated immediately as there is no manpower, he said . He said that he will work in coordination with the hospital management committee for that.
There are currently two doctor vacancies in the district hospital. It is a 15-bed hospital. Although the Koshi state government has announced the creation of 50 shyakos, it has not been implemented . "It is a basic hospital in the village, arrangements can be made to ensure that the patients who are referred from there get treatment in the district hospital," Jayaru added, "The state government has also conducted a study, now it will be done according to that."
According to the hospital, one doctor has to see at least 40 to 50 patients daily. Five doctors were working in the hospital, including those from the contract and union. But another MDGP doctor Maheshwar Gosai has gone on leave last Monday.
As the contract period of the two people has expired, the hospital said that they are preparing to return this month. Geographically, Taplejung, the third largest district in Nepal after Dolpa and Humla, has a district hospital and two primary care centers. These centers are in Temwe of Maivakhola Rural Municipality and Telok of Sirijunga. Here, the local level has kept a doctor .
