The No Cable Car Group has postponed the transport shutdown program announced from March 25. Ram Maden, the leader of No Cable Car Group, said that the bandh program has been postponed as the Supreme Court called for a discussion on March 26.
The group called for closure of Panchthar including Taplejung, Mechi Highway connecting Charali to Jhapa via Ilam and Asian Highway from Moolghat and Kakdavitta in Dhankuta via Panchthar. Due to the publicity of the bandh, pilgrims have not been able to come in large numbers like in previous years. The hoteliers of Taplejung have said that the number of pilgrims has decreased due to fear of the strike.
According to the Pathibhara Area Development Committee, in the previous year around Chaite Dasain and New Year around 17 thousand people visited the temple. According to the committee, the maximum number this year is around 1,700. According to Indra Narayan Bhattarai, president of Pathibhara Upper Fedi Hoteliers Association, the number of pilgrims is expected to increase with the message of suspension of traffic.
When there was a dispute over the construction of the cable car, the agitating group filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding an interim order to suspend and cancel the construction work. The Supreme Court has called the construction company and the No Cable Car group, which filed the writ, for a discussion, saying that the two parties should understand the issue of whether or not to issue an interim order. The work has also been ordered to be suspended until then.
The communication officer of Pathibhara Mata Cable Car Company, Rudra Paudel, said that the construction has been suspended with the order of the Supreme Court. Disputes and clashes have also been taking place on the pros and cons of cable car construction here. This issue has now reached the federal government and the Supreme Court.
