In Dhankuta, hundreds of hectares of forest production has been destroyed when fire broke out in half a dozen community and private forests on Monday.
The fire in Wagle Community Forest located in Seule of Dhankuta Municipality 3 and 4 has also put nearby settlements at risk.
Dhan Bahadur Khadka, Vice President of Wagle Community Forest Consumer Committee, said that most of the area of the forest has been damaged by the fire. Most of the 22 hectare forest has salla trees.
Meanwhile, the police said that a fire broke out in Dhankuta Municipality-8 Tekunala on Monday.
Dhankuta municipality-1 Hille, Kharayo T-state has also caught fire. According to the police, the fire was brought under control late in the evening at the initiative of the police and local residents.
On the other hand, a fire broke out in Arun Pipley Community Forest in Mahalakshmi Municipality-4 Thakle on Monday.
Similarly, a fire has also broken out in the private forest of Lal Bahadur Katuwal in Pakhribas municipality-3 Sinhadevi. Even the forest fire was brought under control in the evening by the initiative of police and local residents.
The police say that fires have broken out in other places of the district as well. It is said that the details of the damage are yet to be received.
