Age is the time to stay at home and rest. But 77-year-old Ganesh Bahadur Tamang of Dharan sub-metropolitan city-9 walks around the streets of the market with a variety of fruits on his bicycle. He has made a bicycle like a cart with two heads, 6 dhakis and 6 carats. Every morning, he decorates his bicycle by buying apples, oranges, grapes and other seasonal fruits from the agricultural produce market located in Dharan-13. They walk all day long in the streets of Dharan selling fresh fruits.
It has been 15 years since he started walking the streets of Dharan selling fruits according to the season on his bicycle. He said that fruits worth 10,000 to 15,000 rupees are sold daily. "I still have the courage to do it for myself." That's why I'm still working hard on my own, I don't rely on anyone until I'm strong,' says Tamang.
He told that because there was no other way of income, he started selling fruits according to the season. It is his experience that it is better to sell it in the street than in the market. He said that selling in the market would be better than selling by keeping a shop in one place. The rent to open a shop in the market is expensive. If you sell it by swinging, you will save money to pay the room rent,' he says, 'You can't say sun, rain, winter, summer, but by swinging you will sell more than by keeping one place. His family consists of wife, 3 sons and 2 daughters . Now all the children are married and have to eat by themselves. He says that since everyone is busy with their own work, he also earns till the end. He used to sell fruits on his bicycle during the day and lives with his wife near Subjimandi located in Dharan-9.
'When you are sick, only your sons look at you . At other times, everyone eats separately, the family is big, there are even grandchildren, we all get together during the festival,' he said with a smile, 'when everyone gathers at the festival, we feel happy . As I have a habit of working, I don't like to stay at home, I enjoy working here as long as I can.'
