Red Panda and Thar festival will be held on the next Baisakh 1. Diktel Rupakot Mazhuwagadhi Municipality is going to organize the festival on the occasion of Mundum Trail Tour Year 2025.
Head of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality Tirtharaj Bhattarai said that on May 1st, food and costumes of different castes will be presented in Hurlung. Actor Dayahang Rai will be the chief guest of Red Panda and Thar Mahotsav,' In a press conference held on Thursday, he said, "Besides this, the Red Panda-Thar Trail will also be started."
According to Bhattarai, the footpath connecting Mundum Trail from Hurlung to Rupakot through Bagrevanjang, Sirdhan Chautaro, Sikuri Bhanjang, Lahe Mane, Banianpati, Sapsudhap, Merung three thumki will be started as Redpanda-Thar Trail. He said that tourism will be promoted by protecting the red pandas and tigers found in the
municipality area. For this, Mugadhan Rai, the ward chairman of the municipality-10, has been appointed as the coordinator of the festival.
Red Panda and Thar are found in various community forests of Patheka. The team that went to take photos and videos to promote Red Panda and Thar Festival found a red panda on the border of Kopche and Merung Community Forests at 8:40 am on March 4th. Palamsin Rai, Chairman of Community Forest Users Group, said that the red panda was found at an altitude of 2,781 meters.
The Red Panda is about one and a half year old male, said Red Panda Heralu Pushpalal Giri of Merung Community Forest. "It is estimated that there may be about five red pandas in this area," he said.
