Passengers have been in trouble recently due to the suspension of air services at Suketar Airport in the district. Regular flights have been stopped since the last week of December due to problems with two planes of Nepal Air Service Corporation flying to Suketar Airport.

According to the airport office, one plane has been damaged and is being repaired since Dasain, while the other one has been damaged since the first week of January.

Due to the suspension of air services for a long time, internal and external tourists and general public have not been able to take the service. A few years ago, Sita Air and Tara Air were flying at this airport during the tourist season, but now both of them have stopped their services.

TwinOtter of Nepal Air Service Corporation was flying regularly on Monday, Wednesday and Friday three days before Dasain, but after Dasain, it was flying only on Friday.

Dharmendra Khanal, Senior Officer of Suketar Airport, said that despite the official notification of re-operation of flights from March 4 (February 20), the flight could not be operated due to the non-arrival of aircraft.

The tourism sector of Taplejung has been affected due to the suspension of air services for a long time. Tourists have not been able to take air service, they are forced to go to Jhapa or Biratnagar airport for medical treatment and other urgent work. Locals are demanding that the relevant agencies should take immediate necessary steps for the smooth movement of passengers.
