Voting for the new leadership of UML Morang was completed on Wednesday evening. According to Chief Electoral Officer Suresh Lal Shrestha, out of total 911 voters, only 888 voters have voted. It is said that the counting of votes will start from 8 am on Thursday. Voting started at 9:30 am on Wednesday and ended only in the evening.
On Tuesday, 71 people were elected unopposed in the election for the 165-member new district committee. Voting has been done for the remaining posts. Rajkumar Ojha, President, Shanti Limbu Bhujel Vice President, Ravin Thapa Secretary and Shilpa Nirala Karki and Irjalal Rajvanshi have become candidates for Deputy Secretary from the group which is said to have the support of President KP Sharma Oli.
In the same way, Ajamber Rai has become the president, Sagar Thapa is the vice president, Somraj Thapa is the secretary, and Santosh Bantwa and Usha Jha have become the deputy secretaries from Oli's faction. Sources claim that this group has the support of former president Bidya Devi Bhandari.
Bhandari, who visited the East last month, had extensive meetings with Oli and other groups. Among them was the influential UML leader of Morang, Vinod Dhakal. Oli and other factions are led by Dhakal.
