Two schools in Meringden Rural Municipality have been closed for three days after the students started falling sick one after another.

Ward no. 5 Thukimwa's Tribhuvan Secondary School and Janjyoti Basic School have been closed. More than 300 students have fever, cough, headache and stomach ache.

According to Kamal Limbu, principal of Tribhuvan Mavi, 150 students and four teachers of that school have seen such symptoms. Limbu informed that 100% of such symptoms were observed in Janjyoti and when the symptoms started appearing in the community as well, it was decided to close the school for three days immediately.

Uday Kumar Yadav, Acting Chief Administrative Officer and Head of the Health Branch of the Rural Municipality, said that health workers were mobilized immediately after receiving the information from the school. According to him, everyone is getting sick in the village and fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose,  As symptoms such as headache and stomach ache have been seen, there is a preliminary estimate of an epidemic of viral influenza.

He said that a kit has been ordered from Biratnagar for virus testing here. 'There is no lab here for sample testing. We will immediately send the sample for lab test,' he said, 'it will be confirmed after the report comes.' According to him, for the time being, health workers have been mobilized in the village and treatment has been started.
